I’ve realized that when it comes to Internet shopping that I am an amateur in the company of masters; the masters of course are my Facebook friends who seem to know where to shop for just about everything under the sun. Today I had to buy bedding.
Sound like fun? It’s not. I braved the mall and stores today, all of which were crowded because everyone where I am has a strong case of cabin fever. I couldn’t find anything that I liked; I opted not to buy the $400+ comforter sets at Macy’s and was equally unimpressed with the bedding at Target (although the customer service was impressive).
So, I turned to my Facebook friends tonight to see what they would recommend; the moms were the first to pop in with suggestions. Among the stores recommended to me were: JC Penny’s, which also ships; Kohl’s, Target, Ikea, Overstock, Land’s End and CB2.
I had to hunt down the best prices and tried to avoid the dreaded Sateen sheets, which just aren’t cozy enough for me in the winter. All of the comforters started to look the same; I was torn between the playful girly patterns and the more simple patterns. (I’ll leave you to guess which pattern I eventually got.) I had no idea that there were so many bedding choices or that there were so many stores online offering pretty great deals.
I started to worry that I was the only woman on the planet that didn’t enjoy decorating her bedroom. At first, I tried to close my eyes and pick out the most expensive sets with the best thread counts. But I couldn’t get myself to do it. I had to restrain myself.
But since I just bought a bed today, I didn’t want to go too cheap and settled somewhere in the middle. Overstock definitely seemed to have the widest selection, but I was overwhelmed with the number of choices that were on the site. Kohl’s had great prices, but I wasn’t taken with any of the specific options on the site.
The hardest part of my whole sheet-buying ordeal was the realization that normal sheets are hard to find. The world seems to be in LOVE with Sateen sheets. Not me, which added an extra fifteen minutes to my online shopping experience. I finally found sheets at JC Penny’s and the down comforter and duvet cover at Pacific Coast.
By the time I announced my purchases on Facebook, I was told in no uncertain terms to take everything back by my younger cousin, who is a much more patient shopper than I am.
