Attention hipsters and all those who love quality clothing! There is currently 20% off when shopping online with American Apparel on select merchandise when using promo code FALL2010 at checkout. This is a pretty big deal as generally they do not have such sales throughout the year. This is just another Back to School promotion that will no doubt be a win-win for American Apparel - and the stores loyal customer base. This great offer is only valid August 27-30.
When you purchase items from American Apparel you are actually buying clothing that was made in, you guessed it, America! You will not find labels from the Third World on these items and can feel good about making the purchase. If you worry about overseas sweatshop labor - or your clothing being made by children in poor countries - worry no more! This clothing is made by legal-age adults in reputable, clean, factories here in the states (I believe in California).
I often hear people complaining about how "plain" the clothing here is and it always makes me wonder why this is a bad thing - I find clothing that is solid or with a slight pattern much more attractive than a dumpy black shirt with the words "That's What She Said" written on it. Wearing "plain" clothing sets an example that you do not need a fancy logo on your clothes - or worse, cartoon characters. The price is another reservation many have - the prices here a a bit higher than other stores - because the clothing is made here, in America, where the cost of labor (by itself) is higher than any country in the Third World (thank you minimum wage), and you also have to take in account the higher price of quality that goes into these clothes. I have had some of my AA clothes for more than 5 years - and they still look great! That is not something I can say about some stuff I have gotten from other companies - even Nordstrom.
So you have two choices - you can go out and get some REALLY cheap, child labor produced, third world country rags to wear... or... you can get some really high quality stuff at what is a pretty amazing discount (for AA, anyway). If you opt for the second one - you can also get the satisfaction of knowing your helping keep jobs in the states - and you will not have to worry about finding a childs finger sewn into your shirt. So go get your shop on!
