Are you getting a little fed up with having to pay high fees using PayPal and Google Checkout - to have access to money that should be all yours? Well, you are in luck because "Amazon Text Pay Me" is now offering no fees to send or receive money!

All you need is an Amazon Payments account, a mobile phone, and a reason to send or receive money. The reasons for wanting to send or receive money can certainly vary but a few of the most common situations would be splitting restaurant/bar bills between you and your friends or family, giving a friend or family member a small loan (or accepting one), and even to get paid or pay for goods and services to or from people you can trust.

I think this service will really prove something to the other "big two" (PayPal and Google Checkout) and I can foresee they will also start to provide something similar in the future - after all, if you want to stay big you have to stay competitive. In the off chance that my prediction is wrong, well, this is an offer that is hard to resist and the market share for Amazon Payments will surely go up. I am the type of person that does not really like to spread my information all over the place with difference companies so I might just try Amazon Payments and quit using the other 2 providers. I could save myself hundreds of dollars - or more if I can figure out a way to use this effectively.

I have learned that you can also use the service to pay your cell phone bill (with most providers) also at no additional charge - but again, I (and Amazon) need to figure out how to use this service for everyday stuff - once that happens I am sure it will really take off!

How do I send money with my mobile phone?

Using Amazon TextPayMe, you can send a payment with your text-enabled mobile phone. A payment can be sent to a recipient's e-mail address or mobile number. You can send a payment by sending a text message to '262966' (AMAZON).

For instance, to send $5 to a person whose mobile number is (206) 555-1234, you would send a text message to '262966' (AMAZON) and include the following in the message body: Pay 5 2065551234

After the payment text message is sent, if the amount is over a certain value, you will receive a phone call from us on your mobile phone to ask for payment authorization. In the phone call, you will be prompted to enter the 4-digit PIN you created during the verification process to authorize the payment. If there aren't enough funds in your account, you can choose to use a credit card complete the payment.
